The Funkees
The Funkees were a Nigerian funk and Afrobeat band active during the 1970s, known for their energetic live performances and infectious grooves. Formed in 1969 in London, the group consisted of Nigerian and Ghanaian musicians, including Jake Sollo, Harry Mosco, and Tony Allen. Their music blended traditional Yoruba rhythms with funk, soul, and psychedelic elements, reflecting the cultural exchange between West Africa and the Western world during that era. The Funkees released several albums, including "The Funkees" (1976) and "Dancing Time" (1977), and remain influential in the Afrobeat and funk revival scenes.
