Bashar Barakah Jackson, professionally known as Pop Smoke, was an American rapper, singer, and songwriter who became a key figure in the Brooklyn drill music scene. Born on July 20, 1999, in Brooklyn, New York, Pop Smoke rose to fame with his distinctive deep voice and hard-hitting lyrics that quickly captivated audiences around the world. Pop Smoke's music career began in 2018, and he gained widespread recognition in 2019 with the release of Welcome to the Party, a gritty track that became an anthem for Brooklyn drill music. His success continued with other hits like Dior and Gatti, which showcased his talent and unique style. Pop Smoke’s music often reflected themes of street life, resilience, and ambition, resonating with fans globally. In 2020, Pop Smoke released his breakout mixtape Meet the Woo 2, solidifying his position in the industry. Tragically, his promising career was cut short when he was fatally shot in Los Angeles on February 19, 2020, at the age of 20. Despite his untimely passing, Pop Smoke’s influence continues to shape the drill music genre, and his posthumous album Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon topped charts worldwide, keeping his legacy alive as one of the most impactful voices in modern hip-hop.
