Nas, born Nasir Bin Olu Dara Jones on September 14, 1973, in Brooklyn, New York, is a highly influential American rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur. He rose to prominence in the early 1990s with his debut album Illmatic (1994), widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. Nas is known for his intricate lyricism, vivid storytelling, and his ability to paint detailed pictures of street life and personal struggles. His music covers themes of social justice, inner-city life, and personal growth. Nas initially gained recognition with his verse on the track "Live at the Barbeque" by Main Source in 1991, which led to a contract with Columbia Records.
