Gaz Mawete, born Gaël Mawete on September 30, 1991, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, is a prominent Congolese singer, songwriter, and performer. He first gained public attention in 2011 through the Congolese reality TV show Vodacom Superstars. His breakthrough came in 2013 with his debut single "Tupendana," and he followed this with other early releases, although they didn't initially achieve great success. In 2014, his tracks "Etali Nga Te" and "Mukolo Ya Zoba" helped him gain more recognition. His career took a significant leap after winning the Vodacom Best of the Best All-Star competition in 2017, which led to a contract with the prestigious Bomaye Musik label.Mawete is best known for his hit song "Olingi Nini," released in 2018, which became a viral sensation, amassing millions of views on YouTube. His music blends Congolese rumba with modern Afrobeat influences, making him a key figure in contemporary Congolese music. He has collaborated with artists such as Fally Ipupa and Ferre Gola, further solidifying his place in the African music scene.
