Agbaso
Chief Martin Agbaso, born on April 5, 1959, in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria, is a prominent economist, politician, and businessman. He is popular for his political career and his contributions to the economic and social development of his state and country. He is married to Robin Agbaso, an American, and together they have three children: Nnanna, Adanna, and Ikenna. Agbaso began his education at Our Lady's Primary School in Emekuku (now Chief Obi Memorial Primary School), graduating in 1971. He continued at Sabastine Academy (now Emekuku High School) and obtained his West African School Certificate in 1976. He later attended the Pontifical University in Rome, Italy, where he became the first African Secretary General of the International Students, graduating with an Advanced Diploma in Social Sciences in 1980. He furthered his studies at the State University of New York, Old Westbury, earning degrees in Finance in 1983 and 1984. Chief Agbaso's political journey began in 1992 when he was elected as the Imo East Senatorial representative under the National Republican Convention (NRC). He continued his political endeavors, winning the senatorial seat again in 1998 under the Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN). In 2001, he was appointed as Special Assistant on Ecology to President Olusegun Obasanjo, serving until 2004. In 2007, Agbaso became the gubernatorial candidate for Imo State under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Though the election was later canceled, he remained influential, leading APGA in Imo State and serving as the National Chairman of the party from 2017 to 2018. In 2018, he transitioned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing a significant following with him. Beyond politics, Chief Agbaso has an extensive background in business. He began his career at Prudential Inc. in New York, where he rose from management trainee to Financial Analyst. He is the founder of Agad Nigeria Limited, Sudriva Limited, and Sudenergy Limited. In 1997, he acquired Nathan Limited and expanded it into one of Africa's largest garment processing companies. Additionally, he operates Agbaso Integrated Farms, a technologically advanced farm in Emekuku, Owerri.
